Although Rattle has been a notable advocate of Szymanowski, he takes a back seat here. The strength of this recording really comes from Zehetmair, an Austrian violinist who certainly has a good reputation among musicians but doesn’t have the star power of his collaborators. Zehetmair does particularly well I think in the opening Moderato of the 2nd concerto, a 1930s piece that was the author’s last major work.
