His chops on the electric guitar are never in question, but other recent efforts like 2001's Gypsy Project and 2006's Solo: To Bi or Not to Bi are the kind of Bireli Lagrene albums one is more likely to return to long after this exercise in strutting is shelved with a shrug.

Biréli Lagrène (born 4 September 1966) is a French Manouche jazz guitar virtuoso who came to prominence in the 1980s for his Django style. He often performs in swing, jazz fusion and post-bop styles. Lagrène was born on 4 September 1966 in Saverne, Alsace, France, into a Romani family and community. His father and grandfather were guitarists, and he was raised in the gypsy guitar tradition.

Electric Side, the new album by guitar great Birli Lagrne, finds the artist reconnecting with his jazz/rock persona, in the spirit of his 1980's collaborations with Jaco Pastorius. The sound is an exciting and unique update on contemporary jazz sounds, featuring wonderful new Bireli Lagrne compositions, and an incredible cover of Herbie Hancock's Jack Rabbit. Grand Jazzman, Biréli Lagrène a joué avec les plus grands, tels Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano et a obtenu des récompenses prestigieuses, parmi lesquelles les Django d'or, les Victoires de la Musique.
