Listen to Butch Thompson Bert Williams MP3 song. Bert Williams song from the album Classic New Orleans Jazz, Vo. : Butch Thompson Plays Jelly Roll Morton Piano Solos is released on Oct 2006. The duration of song is 03:33. This song is sung by Butch Thompson.

Butch Thompson is a terrific pianist and clarinetist in the field of stride and early jazz. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who can tackle the difficult repertoire of Jelly Roll Morton and make it sound so effortless. I have many of Thompson's recordings and admire the man greatly. Unfortunately, this foray into the "classic" ragtime of Scott Joplin is a rare misfire for Mr. Thompson. He plays with a buoyancy that I find appealing, but unfortunately, he misses too many notes in the process.

Butch Thompson (born November 28, 1943 in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota) is an American jazz pianist and clarinetist best known for his ragtime and stride performances. Thompson was born in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, began playing piano at the early age of three, and began taking lessons at age six. At Stillwater Area High School, he played clarinet in the band. In 1962 he joined the Hall Brothers New Orleans Jazz Band in Minneapolis and remained with the band for twenty years.
