Silvius Leopold Weiss. Sylvius Leopold Weiss (12th October 1687–16th October 1750) was a German composer and lutenist. Born in Grottkau near Breslau, the son of Johann Jacob Weiss, also a lutenist, he served at courts in Breslau, Rome, and Dresden, where he died.
Silvius Leopold Weiss German composer Silvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) was the most prolific of all lute composers. Some 600 pieces have survived. In 1739 he had the opportunity. By 1744 Weiss had become the highest paid instrumentalist of the Hofkapelle Dresden and was well-known throughout Europe as the finest lutenist of his generation.
