The Recluse is the fourth track on Cursive’s album The Ugly Organ and was released in 2003. The song runs through the thoughts of a man after he wakes up in a woman’s bed the morning after. He reflects upon his low self esteem, inadequacy in relationships and why it is he can’t seem to stay in one that doesn’t inevitably end. The song uses the metaphor of a fly in a spider’s web to describe his view on relationships and his apparent helplessness in them going wrong. The Recluse" Track Info.

Cursive – The Recluse Lyrics. from album: The Ugly Organ (2003). I wake alone, ina woman's room I hardly know. I wake alone- and pretend that I am finally home. The room is littered with her books and notebooks. I imagine what they say, like, 'shoo fly, don't bother me, ' And I can hardly get myself out of her bed. For fear of never lying in this bed again.
