Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme ('Awake, calls the voice to us'), BWV 140, also known as Sleepers Wake, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach, regarded as one of his most mature and popular sacred cantatas. He composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig for the 27th Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on 25 November 1731. Bach composed this cantata to complete his second annual cycle of chorale cantatas, begun in 1724
Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (June 21, 1732 – January 26, 1795), the ninth son of Johann Sebastian Bach, sometimes referred to as the "Bückeburg Bach". He is not to be confused with Bach's first cousin once removed, Johann Christoph Bach. Born at Leipzig, Germany, he was taught music by his father, and also tutored by his distant cousin Johann Elias Bach. He studied at the St. Thomas School, and some believe he studied law at the University there, but there is no record of that. Sinfonia in D minor, HW 1/3: II.
The Complete Works of Johann Sebastian Bach - Bachakademie 10th Anniversary Special Collection. Teldec's mammoth Bach 2000 box set represents a kind of culmination of that original attempt to come to terms with Johann Sebastian Bach's unparalleled legacy. This set brings together performances recorded over the last several decades-a small percentage of the recordings are previously unreleased-of all the extant works determined by modern scholarship to be authentic.
Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach. Naxos has a few really good symphonies out by Christoph Friedrich. Like the other Bach sons, he's solid as can be, he has a sort of compellingly mechanical sound. He's more contrapuntal than . but more Viennese than Carl Phillip in these symphonies I have. Worth checking out, since as is typical of a Bach son, he's better than just about all the other minor composers of the time. Jun-13-2011, 05:01 #2.
The sixteenth of Johann Sebastian Bach’s twenty children, he was the ninth child from J. S. Bach’s marriage to Anna Magdalena. He attended St Thomas’s School and was taught composition as well as how to play the organ and other keyboard instruments by his father. He also owed part of his musical education to his distant cousin Johann Elias Bach (1705–1755) from Schweinfurt, who lived in the Bachs’ home from 1737 until 1742 and acted as J. Bach’s personal assistant
