The Stabat Mater and Litany to the Virgin Mary are more austere works, as their subject matter requires, with reflective moments of a cappella choral singing and delicately accompanied vocal solos, but they inhabit the same harmonic landscape as the Third Symphony. While the symphony is characterized by an almost erotically charged ecstasy, the passions that these pieces voice are expressions of intense grief or profound religious devotion. The confidence and vitality of this recording testifies to the performers' familiarity and fluency with this music

Szymanowski, Stabat Mater, Litany, Symphony No. 3 - Simon Rattle.

Szymanowski: Stabat Mater/Litany To the Virgin Mary/Symphony 'Song of the Night'. This 1993 recording led by Simon Rattle is a beauty. It contains a very musical interpretation of one of Karol Szymanowski's best works, the Stabat Mater (1926), as well as successful interpretations of one of the musician's last, the 10-minute long Litany for the Virgin Mary, and the earlier 3rd Symphony, for tenor, chorus and orchestra. The Stabat Mater is the stand out here.

Symphony No. 3 (Szymanowski). Symphony No. 3 Op. 27 (. The Song of the Night) is a symphony composed by Karol Szymanowski during the period 1914 - 1916 after a period spent travelling in Eastern Europe. The symphony is considered to be one of Szymanowski's finest works. The symphony is a musical setting of a poem by the 13th-century Persian mystic Jalal ud-Din Rumi translated by Polish poet and friend of composer Tadeusz Miciński, supposed to celebrate the exceptional beauty of the Eastern night. Litany to the Virgin Mary (1933).

Szymanowski: Stabat Mater, Op. 53. Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir. Aleksandra Kurzak (soprano), Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzo-soprano), Dmitry Korchak (tenor) & Artur Ruciński (baritone). Szymanowski: Litania do Marii Panny (Litany to the Virgin Mary), Op. 59. The new album by the Warsaw Philharmonic features music by eminent Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. His Litany to the Virgin Mary, Stabat Mater and Song of the Night were written between 1914 and 1933, which is considered to have been the most fruitful period in his creative life. Litany to the Virgin Mary to a poem by Jerzy Liebert (1904-1931) – a poet known for his love of lyrical verse on philosophical and religious subjects – is a piece which Szymanowski began to compose in 1930.

The album was recorded and filmed live at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, England on 24 November 2012. The band, with the orchestra and chamber choir, made up about 50 performers together, and performed the band's first two albums The Human Menagerie and The Psychomodo in their entirety - with some of the songs entirely new to the stage. The sold-out show was a one off performance of the two albums, and also included Spandau Ballet's Steve Norman on saxophone and percussion. Szymanowski: Violin Concertos 1 & 2 (Warsaw Philharmonic feat. conductor: Antoni Wit), Britten: Violin Concerto (Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra feat. conductor: Manfred Honeck) feat. violin: Frank Peter Zimmerman released: 2009. The Complete Music for Violin and Piano (feat. violin: Alina Ibragimova, piano: Cédric Tiberghien) released: 2009.
