Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazy (Russian: Влади́мир Дави́дович Ашкена́зи, Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazi; born 6 July 1937) is an internationally recognized solo pianist, chamber music performer, and conductor. He is originally from Russia and has held Icelandic citizenship since 1972. He has lived in Switzerland since 1978. Ashkenazy has collaborated with well-known orchestras and soloists. The repertoire on this 2014 release includes two works for two pianos in which Ashkenazy is joined by his son Vovka. The album also presents a wide selection of Blake's solo pieces for piano performed by Ashkenazy himself. The title track of the album is a solo piano version of Walking In The Air from the 1982 animated holiday film The Snowman, issued as an advance release download in time for Christmas 2013.
