The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s

Originally released in 1952 as a quasi-legal set of three double LPs and reissued several times since (with varying cover art), Anthology of American Folk Music could well be the most influential document of the '50s folk revival. Many of the recordings that appeared on it had languished in obscurity for 20 years, and it proved a revelation to a new group of folkies, from Pete Seeger to John Fahey to Bob Dylan.

The traditional music of Japan comprises a rich variety of styles developed over the course of more than a millennium. Among them are ancient imperial court music (Gagaku), the 14th-century form of musical drama patronized by feudal lords (Noh), and semiclassical music. Folk songs come from the mountains, the coast, Okinawa, and Tokyo. The liner notes refer to contributions from other cultures-India, China, Korea, Indonesia-that were assimilated to Japan’s highly original civilization, and also describe the performance traditions. This album is part of the UNESCO Collection of Traditional Music.

The American Folk Blues Festival was an annual tour of Europe between 1962 and 1971 that featured America's greatest blues artists. This 5-CD set contains 76 classic performances, chronologically arranged, by 30 artists and their all-star bands during the 1962-1965 festivals. These tracks were recorded live at the festival, as well as in the studio in Hamburg, Germany. Included are 30 tracks previously unreleased in the US. Artists include: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Memphis Slim,.

The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as traditional music, traditional folk music, contemporary folk music, or roots music. Many traditional songs have been sung within the same family or folk group for generations, and sometimes trace back to such origins as Great Britain, Europe, or Africa all the music that fits between the cracks.
