Symphonies n° 80, 81, 99, Orchestre de Chambre de Cologne - Direction Helmut Müller-Brühl. Symphonies 80 and 81 are important because they are the last symphonies Haydn composed before the set of "Paris" symphonies, nos. 82 - 87, in which he took the form to a new level. The Cologne Chamber Orchestra presents agile, flexible, idiomatic performances with well-recorded sound. Typical of the Naxos tradition, this bargain-priced, fully-packed disc provides a recording opportunity for lesser-known but highly competent musicians.

Helmut Müller-Brühl was a highly respected German conductor whose long association with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, both in concert and in the recording studio, won over a large following from critics and the public alike. He recorded for a number of major labels, including Naxos, EMI, and Koch Schwann. Helmut Müller-Brühl was born in Brühl, Germany. He showed musical talent early on, but did not give serious thought to a career in music until after concluding studies in philosophy and Catholic theology

com's "on demand" process (with original booklet and notes).

The Basel Chamber Orchestra present a sound that is a touch sweeter than Il Giardino Armonico’s, although that familiar period-instrument ‘spit’ is still never absent when the Sturm und Drang is turned up to 1.
