Haila María Mompié González (born 28 January 1974), better known as Haila Mompié or simply Haila, is a Cuban singer. She specializes in son and timba, being the lead vocalist in Azúcar Negra. Haila was born on 28 January 1974 in Amancio, Las Tunas, Cuba. Her father was hobby-singer and her mother a stylist. She started her musical schooling at age nine in Santiago de Cuba, where she studied dance. At age 15 her family moved to Havana, which stopped her career shortly

La Charanga Habanera David Calzado and Charanga Habanera have been on the cutting edge of Timba since they played a seminal role in defining the genre in 1992. The original Charanga Habanera recorded four indispensible classic albums before a whirlwind of personnel changes beginning in 1997 split them into three separate groups: Charanga Forever, Dany Lozada y su Timba Cubana, and David Calzado´s new Charanga Habanera. This group of pages lays the foundation for all three groups and then follows the career of David Calzado and the band known today as Charanga Habanera. Limonta had written almost all of the material for Bamboleo´s brilliant second album, Yo no me parezco a nadie and Haila was one of the lead singers. Azúcar Negra created a great new arrangement of the title song and Limonta continued to pour his songwriting talent into the project.

Haila Mompié was born on January 28, 1974 in Las Tunas, an eastern province of the country. Her father was an amateur singer and her mother an stylist. Since her childhood, Haila Mompié was devoted to music and, though at the very beginning she felt attracted by dancing, she always felt a great affinity with singing. That same year, she was asked to participate in the "Guajira Habanera" show and, as part of this show, she made her first international tour through different scenarios in Mexico. In September 1994, she joined the Bamboleo musical project where she became outstanding for her excellent vocal quality and her first-class improvisation thus revealing herself as one of the most important soneras of her generation. On April 25, 2003, the Haila María Mompié Orchestra, made up by highly talented musicians, was launched at the Riviera Hotel Copa Room Cabaret.
