Now, in 2015, Danzig; featuring Glenn Danzig, Tommy Victor on lead guitar, Steve Zing on bass guitar/backing vocals, and Johnny Kelly on drums/percussion, is back with their tenth studio album, Skeletons. Their first studio record in five years, it hit shelves on Black Friday 2015 and was produced by Glen Danzig on his Evilive label with distribution via Nuclear Blast Records. Skeletons is a ten-track cover smorgasbord that spans a twelve (1962-1974) year period of music history beginning with Devil’s Angels.

However, Danzig wants to show you where it started with his tenth full-length album and first since 2010’s Deth Red Saboath-Skeletons. A labor of love that began in 1979, Skeletons allows Danzig to pull back the curtain behind his influences with a collection of ten covers spanning artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith to Black Sabbath, The Troggs, The Everly Brothers, and more. Recorded across several years in Los Angeles, he quite literally reveals the bone structure for his own style and features some of the most striking album.

However, Danzig couldn’t release an album of influences without at least tapping into the horror and exploitation film genres that so heavily inspired the Misfits. One thing that Glenn Danzig is NOT is an interpreter of the classic hard rock and metal songbook. Maybe he was admiring Rod Stewart's recent work and fancied himself as just the guy to do this sort of project, mixed up with a bunch of other stuff that is equally mediocre. The end result is plain godawful. With production as murky as the early Misfits records, Glenn attempts to tackle such chestnuts as Black Sabbath's "N.I.B.", which is just a pointless plod here. for a prime example of how terrible this album is, just behold his cover of ZZ Top's "Rough Boy". My god, please make him STOP!

В час когда весь мир уже несколько лет ждет от Гленна чего-то настоящего, Данциг выпускает альбом посредственных каверов. Пичалька.

Danzig has made a lot of great records, but this one is not one of them.AVOID!!!!

I like Danzig's stuff with the Misfits and the first 3 Danzig albums. I disliked the production on this record (parts of it sound like they were recorded in a shoebox). What I did quite like though was the carefree approach to these covers. This album felt genuinely FUN to listen to. The tongue-in-cheek cover art, referencing Bowie, is a nice touch as well.

lets go baby
For old fans/fiends of Misfits and Samhain, this record is recommended! If you only like Danzig 1-4 (and not the later "metal" records"), stay away! For people that like things dirty and dont mind squelling guitars and primal drumming interwoven with great Danzig vocals, i recommend! If you want clean studio production with flawless metal sound, stay away! Could have been better, could have been badder. For old fans such as me its a curiosity and a good filler until Danzig 10 and the Elvis cover album. But its not for perfectionists that like clean productions and want it metal.
