While the self-titled debut was a wildly eclectic set featuring 27 songs spread over two discs, Peoria's eight tunes clock in under 35 minutes, and there's a greater stylistic cohesion, though the twin nexus points of clever pop and 21st century psychedelia still dominate this music.

Future Clouds & Radar debuted last year with a sprawling and eponymous double album, a magical mystery tour that sailed through seas of time, science, monsters, and holes. Ambitious but not overwrought, the 27-song collection showed flashes of the Flaming Lips' orbital bliss, the desultory brilliance of Big Star circa Third/Sisters Lovers, and the bristling eclecticism of Elvis Costello, with radiant instrumental interludes and tangents into glam-garage rock and pastoral psych-folk. The metropolitan area also serves as the metaphorical backdrop for Future Clouds & Radar's new album of the same name, bringing into question the worthiness of mortal accomplishment and mainstream acceptance.

Future Clouds and Radar has been added to your Cart. Double CD debut album originally released in 2007; Led by Robert Harrison (Cotton Mather), FS&D combined indie pop, psychedelic stylings reminicent of The Beatles and XTC and the brightness of Starlight Mints into a unique sound that earned them critical praise from the indie pressinistas.

Now Harrison's back as Future Clouds & Radar, sounding like John Lennon fronting a skinny and shaven post-punk ELO. Steered by Mercury Rev's producer, Dave Fridmann, he has filled a skip with the best bits of 40 years of rock history, sprinkled it with Fridmann's magic dust and left it to orbit the earth, though the meandering Mummified proves that genre-spanning, orchestral art-pop isn't as easy as the Flaming Lips, for example, make it look.

Although Future Clouds and Radar evoke two words that are plain annoying – beatlesque and power pop" – the Austin outfit’s 2007 self –titled two disc debut, won over many new fans and even went so far as to be named fourth best album of the year by Harp Magazine.
