Fitzpatrick can be heard on a recent recording of songs by American composer Celius Dougherty, released on Meyer Media Recordings, titled Traditional American Folk Songs. He can also be heard on a 2017 Albany Records recording of American art songs, titled Love the Fair Day: Songs and Duets from the Second New England School. He presented a study entitled The.

Celius Dougherty (May 27, 1902, Glenwood, Minnesota – December 22, 1986, Effort, Pennsylvania) was an American pianist and composer of art songs and other music. Celius Hudson Dougherty was born in Minnesota. He was born to William Francis Dougherty and Louise Martha Dougherty. Celius was interested in music and poetry from childhood

Folk songs are an important part of our culture. They are often very enjoyable to hear and can transmit facts and ideas to listeners. Traditional folk songs generally come from a culture that no longer exists, but they are still interesting. They allow us to glimpse a time that has passed but that may still influence us. The traditional songs that I've chosen for this article are four of my personal favourites. The definition of "folk song" is somewhat nebulous.

Dougherty composed one opera, about 200 songs, and a few instrumental works. Since their creation, his songs have been considered excellent for student singers and are often heard on American recital programs. The songs were composed over a 40-year period, from the 1920s to the 1960s. They are simple, "generally optimistic, often humorous", and "rendered with taste and skill. Because he was a pianist-composer, the piano accompaniments to his songs are usually well-crafted and interesting.

The second program, Celius Dougherty, the American thematically grouped Dougherty's songs alongside works by his famous contemporaries (Copland, Floyd, Argento, Bernstein and Ives). This arrangement of repertoire was intended to further the argument that Dougherty's songs can stand up to more widely recognized works within the rich canon of American Art Song. The final program Dougherty and Copland, presented two song cycles, Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson (Copland) and Eglantine and Ivy, Dougherty's unpublished cycle of sonnets by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
