Arguably, the type of sleek Mexican pop sound that los Angeles de Charly brings to Te Voy a Enamorar is to Mexican audiences what salsa romantica is to Puerto Ricans and Cubans. Salsa romantica is basically a combination of Afro-Cuban rhythms and romantic Latin pop - it isn't hardcore salsa, but it's appealing from a pop standpoint

Los Angeles de Charly is a Mexican musical group led by their namesake vocalist Carlos "Charly" Becíes. The group formed in 1999 after Charly Becíes and fellow vocalist Guillermo "Memo" Palafox left the popular group Los Ángeles Azules. Like Los Ángeles Azules, they are leading exponents of the romantic Mexican cumbia. In 2000, the group's ten-track album Un Sueño peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart.

Other albums by Los Angeles de Charly. Un Tiempo, Un Estilo, Un Amor. Cumbia has always been a part of the picture for singer Charly Becies and his group los Angeles de Charly ("Charly's Angels" in English), but it's especially prominent on Carta de Amor. This 2004 release isn't cumbia in the strict Colombian sense; no one who is seriously knowledgeable about Latin music would mistake Carta de Amor for a collection of recordings by Lucho Bermúdez, Leonor González Mina, or Alberto Pacheco (who were among the heavyweights in classic Columbian cumbia). Carta de Amor is definitely a pop album, and it's a pop album that not only owes something to cumbia mexicana, but also, to '50s doo wop; those with attentive, observant ears will notice the doo wop element in some of Becies' material.
