Guitar Blues is P-Vine's 25-track salute to Louisville bluesman Sylvester Weaver (1897-1960), an early master of slide guitar who specialized in manipulating a knife over the frets. Whereas Document poured 43 titles into a two-volume retrospective, P-Vine sifts through the evidence and delivers an excellent chronologically arranged sampler containing many of his best works on record. Most of his primary accomplishments are present, including a taste of the guitar and banjo solos, a brief glimpse of his work with early blues singer Sara Martin, the groundbreaking sessions with 14-year-old.

Birth and death dates come from 1900 federal census, Louisville, KY, ward 2, district 0020, sheet 4, line 40 and Weaver's death certificate respectively. The census record has the 1896 and the death certificate has the 1897 birth date.

Sylvester Weaver (born July 25, 1897 in Louisville, Kentucky; died April 4, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky) was an American blues guitar player and pioneer of country blues. On October 23, 1923, he recorded in New York with the blues singer Sara Martin Longing for Daddy Blues, I've Got to Go and Leave My Daddy Behind and two weeks later as a soloist Guitar Blues, Guitar Rag. Both recordings were released on Okeh Records. These recordings are the very first country-blues recordings and the first known recorded songs using the slide guitar style.
