Written-By, Performer – Metric. Live It Out ‎(LP, Album, RE). Last Gang Records.

Metric – Live It Out. (Drowned In Sound) UK release date: 10 July 2006. But this is not all black-and-white dynamics: Metric’s roots are in subtler shades – often wrought electronically – and Live It Out soon provides further testimony: Too Little Too Late betrays a softer (though still lyrically bleak) side, acoustic strumming even making itself heard; Poster Of A Girl purveys brilliantly the kind of mild electro-paranoia Kelly Osbourne had a stab at. with One Word

In an effort to prove Metric frontwoman Emily Haines was not the only dominating personality behind the Canadian indie rock group's first album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, the second album hammers home the fact that it's more of a group effort. Production duties were handed to guitarist James Shaw and Haines' trademark synths take a back seat to screeching guitars and more cohesive playing as a quartet.

Most of Live It Out is flat-out filler ( Too Little Too Late, Monster Hospital ), but it’s okay padding for the album’s real meat and potatoes, the feminist Patriarch On A Vespa, which counts the literal horrors of domestic complacency ( comparison shopping, biological wrist watches, and pretty little pillows on floral couches among them) and the propulsive, ominous Poster. Of A Girl (with French spoken-word interludes-always a bonus!). Think of Metric as a poppier Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Breeders and think of Live It Out as another step toward indie-pop splendor.

But I don't want to live it alone Crash to take a chance I wanna live it out Look at you, I know I'm already dead No concrete adversity Only traps of our own actions How we wanted it to be Now I'm never gonna see you again You checked out. Vertabrae by vertebrae Roll your way out of a coma Look up, the nurse is smiling What luck, the nurse is me Your old body is dead Your body's dead, you're a word instead In my sleep I repeat it It's a good story.

Metric : Live it Out. Label: Last Gang. The song starts with a punkified update of a fifties’ era scat, then screams into action with fuzzed out guitars and Haines’ firebrand vocals, proving once again that Metric are the best female fronted punk/pop band since Blondie when instead we should break it. We’ve got to break it before it breaks us. These incisive.
