Until the first Philharmonic concert on March 28, 1842, the city which gave its name to the Viennese classics - Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven - had no professional concert orchestra. The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is a Norwegian orchestra based in Bergen. Its principal concert venue is the Grieg Hall. Established in 1765 under the name Det Musicalske Selskab (The Musical Society), it later changed its name to Musikselskabet Harmonien. Bergen citizens often refer to the ensemble as "Harmonien" (the Harmony).
