Details for album Live At The 5 Spot by Joey DeFrancesco. Simply spectacular! Joey DeFrancesco, born in Philadelphia, is truly a modern jazz legend. If there was ever a "changing of the guard," metaphorically speaking, DeFrancesco has taken the torch- the B3- from the recently late Jimmy Smith. Smith was an innovator, and his spirit lives on in DeFrancesco. This album is a must-have, if you are a B3 Jazz enthusiast. Also, catch the DVD series "Legends of Jazz" hosted by Ramsey Lewis. DeFrancesco makes an appearance there and speaks of his relationship with Smith. I am convinced that DeFrancesco comes alive when he is playing live, and this album is no exception.

Live: The Authorized Bootleg. Recorded off the soundboard during a four-night stand at the famed Oakland, CA, jazz spot Yoshi's in April of 2006, Hammond B-3 boss Joey DeFrancesco laid it down with saxophonist George Coleman sitting in with his trio (which also includes guitarist Jake Langley and drummer Byron Landham). The set opens with DeFrancesco introducing Coleman. He begins to play while strolling to the mike, playing all the way.

Joey DeFrancesco, Category: Artist, Albums: In the Key of the Universe, You're Driving Me Crazy, Project Freedom, Trip Mode, Home for the Holidays, Singles: Oh Christmas Tree, Biography: The music of Joey DeFrancesco - an important force in the revival of the Hammond B-3 organ as a jazz instrument in the 1970s and '80s, as well as a trumpeter and vocalist - runs the gamut from soul-jazz and bluesy grooves à la Jimmy Smith to hard bop and the advanced modal style of Coltrane disciple Larry Young . The album featured DeFrancesco alongside drummer Jason Brown, guitarist Dan Wilson, and saxophonist Troy Roberts.
