Jean-Luc Ponty (born 29 September 1942) is a French jazz violinist and composer. Ponty was born into a family of classical musicians on 29 September 1942 in Avranches, France. His father taught violin, his mother taught piano. At sixteen, he was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating two years later with the institution's highest honor, Premier Prix (first prize). He was hired by the Concerts Lamoureux symphony in which he played for three years.

List of all Jean-Luc Ponty tickets and tour dates for 2019. For most of the concert you could have heard a pin drop as the crowd was listening intently to every note, each passage, and every moment. Unfortunately late in the show, the "had too many beers and probably forgot where they even were" crowd started in with annoying whistling, hooting, hollering etc. People who were listening told them to shut up. Finally the ushers and security dealt with the idiots and we were able to finish the show in peace. I first listen to Jean Luc Ponty in 1976 and I was hooked on his style of fusion jazz. I had seen him live a few times at Ontario Place in Toronto and collected his albums from the 70's and early 80's. When I found out he was coming to the Bears Den at the Seneca Casino, Niagara Falls, NY I and my wife had to go. The show was well worth it.
