Al Haig tends to be overlooked by critics, though he was one of the best bop pianists in the 1950s. The unusual setting of a medley for each side of the original LP makes it seem like this may have been a direct-to-disc session, especially due to the rather stingy playing time of 31 minutes.
This is Haig solo on every track, and the tracks are really two sets of four song medleys. As you listen to the sound samples you will immediately notice the lush sound Haig is getting from his instrument and the concert style he is employing. Don't me wrong - even though the sound samples are too short to convey it, he swings and does justice to both Duke and Bird. Also note that while the first four tracks are all Ellington (usually with Strayhorn) compositions the only Charlie Parker composition in the last four is Yardbird Suite. The other three are songs with which he is closely associated.
Duke is the tenth studio album by English rock band Genesis, released in March 1980 on Charisma Records. The album followed a period of inactivity for the band in early 1979. Phil Collins moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in an effort to salvage his failing first marriage, while Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford recorded solo albums
