Between 1981 and the release of Victory in 1984, Michael issued Thriller, which regularly heads the bestselling album of all time list. When the Jacksons’ own effort was released, it became apparent that he had made only token contributions to the record, and its commercial fortune suffered accordingly. State Of Shock’, which paired Michael with Mick Jagger, was a US hit, but sold in smaller quantities than expected.

The Jacksons Live! (. Live) is a live album by The Jacksons. It was released on November 11, 1981 by Epic Records. The album was recorded during their North American tour in fall 1981, known as the Triumph Tour. The live double album was culled from recordings made on the tour's stops in Buffalo, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; Atlanta and New York City. The live album would go on to sell over two million copies worldwide.

The Jacksons is the eleventh studio album by the Jacksons, the band's first album for CBS and under the name "the Jacksons," following their seven-year tenure at Motown as "the Jackson 5". Jackson 5 member Jermaine Jackson stayed with Motown when his brothers broke their contracts and left for Epic, and he was replaced by youngest Jackson brother Randy. The album was released in 1976 for Epic Records and Philadelphia International Records as a joint venture.

This live album, which was pretty obscure in its original double-LP vinyl version, is a reminder of how great an act they were, and captures what was just about the end of Michael Jackson's work with the family group, all of it very much on a high-note. Live opens with a pounding, powerful rendition of "Can You Feel It" and, with one exception, never lets up, pushing on through a high-velocity and high-articulation version of "Things I Do for You," and a soaring "Off the Wall

While the production could have been better and the guitars sound somewhat thin, this live album offers an effective snapshot of Michael Jackson's career on the eve of "Thriller." Mainly quelling its material from the Jacksons albums "Destiny" and "Triumph" as well as Michael's solo blockbuster "Off the Wall," "Live," bears witness to the undoubtedly incredible show, yet like many live albums, one feels left out of watching what must have been amazing dancing and spectacle. As well, only when they step back to the early '70s hits that the album has its own identity. For hardcore fans, this is a must, yet for casual fans, it's probably better to stick with the two Jacksons albums leading up to it as well as the irreplaceable "Off the Wall."
