Organist Pete Levin, a former member of the Gil Evans Orchestra, reunites in a live setting with fellow ex-bandmates at the Iridium in 2012. The set list includes modern big-band arrangements from the Gil Evans songbook, two of Levin's compositions, and cover versions of Freddie Hubbard's "Little Sunflower," the Lenny White penned "Old Wine, New Bottles" and the Jimi Hendrix classic "Little Wing. Bio: Pete Levin (born December 20, 1942) is an American jazz keyboardist, composer and horn player. Levin grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Pete Levin came into music playing the French horn, and his school department head, John Corley, also directed the concert band at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and played with the MIT band as a ringer for two years. Corley and Osbourne McConathy, the second horn with the Boston Symphony and conductor of the Sarah Caldwell Opera Company, inspired Levin to enroll at the Juilliard School of Music and begin a professional career. In 1990, Levin signed with Gramavision Records to release his first solo jazz album, Party in the Basement, followed by Solitary Man in 1991. A 2012 festival concert was released as Iridium Live 008: 4-8-2012. That same year he received a gold record for his production assistance on the Gym Class Heroes' The Papercut Chronicles II.

In 1998, Levin and Bruford formed Bruford Levin Upper Extremities with trumpeter Chris Botti and guitarist David Torn; the group released albums in 1998 and 2000. Torn, Levin, and Bruford had previously been a quartet, along with trumpeter Mark Isham, for Torn's 1987 studio album Cloud About Mercury (bassist Mick Karn replaced Levin for the tour). Following on from the Stick Man album, Levin joined up with fellow player Michael Bernier and King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto to form the group Stick Men. The band released its first album Soup in 2010. Bernier left the group shortly after the release of Soup and was replaced by touch guitarist Markus Reuter in 2010.
