Now/Traveler is a collection of pieces that find their origins in Steve Roach's earliest recorded works. Tracks One through Five on Now/Traveler are taken from Now - originally released in 1982 - and Tracks Six through 14 were released a year later, under the title of Traveler. This Fortuna release finds these two excellent recordings together on one disc. The work on Now/Traveler is pre-MIDI, but you can almost never tell.

Roach has earned his position in the international pantheon of major new music artists through his ceaseless productivity, constant innovation, and open-minded collaborations with numerous artists and the psychological depth of his music. You could even say that the music on Now/Traveller is a precursor to the Artificial Intelligence sound on Warp Recordings in the early nineties.

NOW was the first full album release from Steve Roach. While these roots are heard here, his personal voice and imagination is on full display. Recorded almost entirely in real-time, there is an urgent and vital current running inside all these pieces.
