music to images and video. my fav mellencamp song hands down. I taught myself how to play the guitar. And when I hear John cougar mellencamp or when I play his DCs or cassettes and on the radio I pick up my guitar and play along with him on all his songs. Well geuss I'm getting guitar lessons.

John Mellencamp, previously known by the stage names John Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp, (born October 7, 1951, in Seymour, Indiana) is a Grammy-winning American rock singer-songwriter, musician, artist and occasional actor. DeFries insisted that Mellencamp's first album, Chestnut Street Incident, a collection of covers and derivative originals (Mellencamp had written just a handful of songs prior to landing a record deal and was still very raw), be released under the stage name Johnny Cougar, a move Mellencamp claims was made without his knowledge and against his wishes. The album was a failure, selling just 12,000 copies.

With Uh-Huh, Mellencamp found the perfect balance between his social concerns and the rock n’ roll of his youth. Uh-Huh! (Remastered) John Cougar Mellencamp. With 1983’s Uh-Huh, Cougar began reclaiming and defining his identity as more than just a sassy, snarky rock n’ roll singer. He added back his real last name and recorded an album that spoke simply and directly from his heart and mind. The Authority Song took its message from the Bobby Fuller Four’s I Fought the Law and its guitar sound from the Rolling Stones, marrying the two to an irresistible rhythm.

Even better than the previous American Fool album, one can hear the heartland vibes becoming full blown in his lyrics and songs. The album contains what I feel is his most underrated and unknown song in Play Guitar. A definite must have!

Vichredag
Uh-Huh is equal parts rock and substance. The rock parts are reminiscent of American Fool, while the tougher subject matter points in the direction to come. It's those elements that make the record balanced and enjoyable. One of the biggest strengths of the album is that Mellencamp has been added to his name. Sure the Cougar is still there and will be for the rest of the 80s, but this does show a sign of confidence and aggression in both the music and the musician. Key tracks are Crumblin' Down, Pink Houses, Authority Song, and Warmer Place To Sleep.
