Along with Chuck Mangione and Herbie Hancock, saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. was crossover jazz royalty. In the 1970s and '80s, Washington's pleasurably mellow and easygoing style (influenced by the pop, funk, and R&B of those years) was many a listener's first initiation into jazz. This disc captures Washington's first and only appearance at the legendary Monterey Jazz Festival in 1994 (about five years before his death, no less)

Often the sun was too much in our Arena seats so we retreated to the shade in the back. We were delighted to find the big screen with the live concert, but the bleachers block the sound from the stage. Why not have live sound coming out of the screen? Also, you didn't promote the Blue Note tent prior to the festival. We didn't know WAYNE was giving an interview Friday evening until we were already on the grounds! Please bring back the festival phone app.
