David Gilmour is the debut solo studio album by Pink Floyd guitarist and co-lead vocalist David Gilmour. The album was released in May and June 1978 in the United Kingdom and the United States, respectively. The album reached number 17 in the UK and number 29 on the Billboard US album charts; it was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. The album was produced by Gilmour, and consists mostly of blues, guitar oriented rock songs except for the piano-dominated ballad "So Far Away".

His album is good, but without the emotional peaks of the Floyd at its best. His ever-distinctive guitar style is used on melodic, even mesmeric themes that sound as if they are always about to develop one step further, but never quite do. Still, Gilmour has mastered keyboards reasonably well (though he agrees he spent a long time recording those sections). And his former colleagues Rick Wills and Willie Wilson (with whom he played in a band back home in Cambridge, before he joined the Floyd) help out with no-nonsense bass and drums. The result is far more worthwhile than the solo indulgences.

David gilmour mainly used a strat with standard single coils into a mess of a pedal board into Hiwatt amps. The simplest way to get his tone would probably be running a strat into a silicon fuzz (something like a fuzz face) and a big muff into a clean amp. He used emgs singles for a stint, but eventually went back to standard single coils. lol as if i put doug gilmour, sorry im canadian and doug gilmour is a retired hockey player haha! kk thanks guys.
