Brothers of Soul Early Years Collection. Let the Good Times Roll, Music Products BV 755901.
His California Album was a return to form for Bobby Blue Bland. Having turned his personal life round in 1971, he turned his career round in 1973. For the first time in nearly ten years, his album charted, spending nineteen weeks in the US Billboard 200. Suddenly, he had a critically acclaimed and commercially successful album on his hands. Thirty-eight years later, the album has a timeless quality, like all good music has. On the album are some fantastic songs, brilliantly played by the cream of Las Angeles’ musicians and sung with a combination of passion, sadness and joy by Bobby.
The Best of Bobby "Blue" Bland: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection. All the best from the peak years (1957-76) of one of the most booming voices in blues! Hits galore: Farther up the Road; That's the Way Love Is; I Pity the Fool; Don't Cry No More; Turn On Your Love Light; Lead Me On; Cry Cry Cry; Call on Me; Chains of Love; Poverty; Good Time Charlie, and more. While his name was familiar, I didn't really listen to Bobby "Blue" Bland until I found a scratched vinyl copy of His California Album in a vintage shop in Wilmington NC recently. Charlie Rich's "Who Will the Next Fool Be?" is classic soul, ironic because of the country roots, "After all is said & done, you won't be satisfied with anyone; So now after you get rid of me baby, who will the next fool be?"
Robert Calvin Bland (né Robert Calvin Brooks; January 27, 1930 – June 23, 2013), known professionally as Bobby "Blue" Bland, was an American blues singer. Bland developed a sound that mixed gospel with the blues and R&B. created tempestuous arias of love, betrayal and resignation, set against roiling, dramatic orchestrations, and left the listener drained but awed. Best Of Bobby Bland: 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection. The Soulful Sound of Bobby Bland: Ask Me 'Bout Nothing (But the Blues). Memphis Monday Morning.

Bland may still not be the most household of names, but those who know the distinctive vocal imprint he put on records for about half a century all recognise his trailblazing greatness. Among his devotees are British blue-eyed soulsters Paul Carrack and Mick Hucknall and American blues-rock giant Boz Scaggs, who met Bland in later years. The unique, soulful cry Bland put into his classic recordings became known as the squall, as he built a collection of landmark singles Bland continued to record into the early 2000s and was still performing until shortly before his death in 2013, at the age of 83.
