Dame Cleo Laine DBE (born 28 October 1927) is an English jazz and pop singer and an actress, known for her scat singing and for her vocal range. Though her natural range is that of a contralto, she is able to produce a G above high C, giving her an overall compass of well over three octaves. Laine is the only female performer to have received Grammy nominations in the jazz, popular and classical music categories. She is the widow of jazz composer Sir John Dankworth.

Dame Cleo Laine, Lady Dankworth DBE, (born Clementina Dinah Campbell on October 28, 1927 in Middlesex, England) is a jazz singer and an actor, noted for her scat singing. She is the only person to have received Grammy nominations in the jazz, popular and classical music awards. Laine was born in a London suburb to a Jamaican father and English mother who sent her to singing and dancing lessons at an early age. She did not take up singing seriously until her mid-twenties, however

Dame Cleo Laine celebrates her 90th birthday at the historic Town Hall in Birmingham, in the company of a stellar cast of friends old and new, together with the seventy musicians of the BBC Concert Orchestra and the BBC Big Band, conducted by one of the biggest names in British jazz, Guy Barker. Among the guest artists, Clare Teal, Kandace Springs, Jacqui Dankworth, Alec Dankworth and Charlie Wood. The concert features music from across Dame Cleo’s career, including her work with her husband John Dankworth and albums with James Galway, Dudley Moore, and Ray Charles. Dame Cleo has enjoyed hits.
