Peter Ruzicka (born 3 July 1948) is a German composer and conductor of classical music. Peter Ruzicka was born in Düsseldorf on 3 July 1948. He received his early musical training (piano, oboe and composition) at the Hamburg Conservatory. He studied composition with Hans Werner Henze and Hans Otte. He studied law and musicology in Munich, Hamburg and Berlin (doctoral thesis: Berlin, 1977).

For composer Peter Ruzicka, however, this occasion was not the only high point of the past year. In July 2008 the former Director of the Hamburg State Opera and the Salzburg Festival, and the present Artistic Director of the Munich Biennale celebrated his 60th birthday. At the centre of this concert and of the soirée programme are three of Ruzicka’s six string quartets, played by the Minguet Quartet, also including the Hamburg premiere of the latest contribution to this genre, Erinnerung und Vergessen (Remembering and Forgetting) for string quartet and soprano. In addition, the NDR Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction will perfor. ns Offene. nto the Ope., music for 22 strings related to Hölderlin’s cosmos. Peter Ruzicka will himself introduce some of the works in his own words during this broadcast.

Peter Ruzicka (born July 3, 1948) is a German composer of classical music. Ruzicka was born in post-war Düsseldorf, and studied music at the Hamburg Conservatory. In 1969, his cantata, Esta Noche, won a prize, and in 1972, he won the Bach Prize Scholarship. In 1979 he was appointed intendant of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.
