Elmer Bernstein's rousing, larger-than-life score to 1983's tongue-in-cheek sci-fi epic Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone in 3-D remains one of the more distinctive and original genre soundtracks of the post-Star Wars era, favoring kinetic melodies and martial percussion over the much-imitated magisterial drama of John Williams' landmark work for George Lucas. Highlighted by its heroic main theme, Bernstein's score employs staccato tempos, otherworldly electronic effects, and dynamic brass arrangements to generate a tangible sense of wonder and excitement.

Forced to land on the plague-ridden planet Terra XI, three women find themselves in the clutches of the evil dictator Overdog (Michael Ironside). Their only hope lies in the hands of the rogue scavenger Wolff (Peter Strauss) and his guide Niki (Molly Ringwald), who face a series of treacherous obstacles on the barren planet.
