Artist: Esaias Reusner, Song: Suite in D minor (Konrad Junghänel), Duration: 15:33, File type: mp3. №1297875973. Du Fault, Jacques Gallot, Esaias Reusner, Johann Gottfried Conradi French Baroque Lute Suites - Michael Schäffer. Esaias Reusner (1636–79) Padoana. Esaias Reusner Suite in D major (Konrad Junghänel).
Organist Wilhelm Tappert got the lute suites ball rolling when he identified BWV 995-9 and BWV 1000 and 1006a as lute pieces in an article published in 1900 (Sebastian Bach’s Compositionen für die Laute). Beginning around 1980, Hopkinson Smith, Konrad Junghanel and Lutz Kirkhof all issued complete recordings on the baroque lute and more have appeared since. You would think that this development strengthens the case for a Bach lute works viewpoint, but closer examination reveals that these recordings of necessity have made use of transpositions, simplifications and altered tunings to make the works better fit the lute.

Esaias Reusner (junior) (1636 - 1679): Suite in A minor. Johann Gottfried Conradi (died 1699): Suite in A major. Performed by Michael Schäffer (1939 - 1979). He would by now have been something of the "grand old man" of baroque lute playing. These four suites were the last recording he ever made - and they make sure that he will remain unforgotten! For this music is played totally unhurriedly, with grace, delicacy and charm, reflecting the use of the lute as a courtly, perhaps even effeminate instrument for those with extremely refined taste.
